Volunteers can be of any age (those under 18 must have parental permission and anyone under 15 must volunteer with a parent). Any volunteer 18 or older will be required to complete a background check and a child abuse prevention training course prior to their first time helping.

Volunteers are asked to pay a one-time $15 fee to assist in the administrative costs. FAQ About Volunteering

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO VOLUNTEER?

Anyone! Children can volunteer with a parent, or those 15 and older may volunteer with parent permission.

WHAT IS THE MINIMUM COMMITMENT TO VOLUNTEER?

You must be willing to work a minimum of 90 minutes, and no less than four (4) hours per month.

DO I HAVE TO WORK A SET SCHEDULE?

We do request that our volunteers commit to a specific time and day to volunteer. This could change from week to week – the goal is to know in advance when our volunteers will be assisting and to ensure that we have the most efficient operation.

DO I NEED A BACKGROUND CHECK?

Yes! If you are 18 or older a background check is required for you to be a volunteer for Jessie’s Closet. We work with some of the most vulnerable children who have been abused by loved ones. While you will not be with children alone, we background check all volunteers to ensure a safe environment for our foster kids and families!

DO YOU ACCEPT COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS?

Yes, we will accept community service hours required by an organization, club, or school. We will certainly also consider court-ordered community service hours. However, we will only track and sign-off on those hours where the person providing the community service (1) commits to a specific time and day and shows up on time; and (2) actually works in a manner that assists the center.

HOW DO I KNOW WHAT I WILL BE DOING?

A really brief listing of opportunities is on our website, and you’ll certainly have a say in what you do to help our organization. Just ask a team member if you have questions.

IS THERE A DRESS CODE?

Yes, volunteers will wear a shirt provided by Jessie’s Closet while volunteering to identify them to our clients. We also expect modest, clean and neat short/slacks/jeans and appropriate shoes. More information will be given to you when you apply and are accepted as a volunteer.

CAN MY GROUP VOLUNTEER TOGETHER?

Absolutely! Just be sure to contact our Store Director to make arrangements and for more information.
